Loci May - The Kiln

Painting with Fire Documentary

I designed and built Loci May, Putnam County’s first anagama in 2004.  Jack Troy, my mentor and author of Wood-Fired Porcelain and Stoneware, brings his pots to each firing because of the amazing results.  There is a large supply of locust in the area and a close friend owns a saw mill less than a quarter mile away.  He has an endless supply of pine and hardwood bark slabs.  The rich supply of available wood is one of the reasons we are able to achieve such dramatic colors and extreme temperatures.  The kiln and kiln shed both have permits from the town.  Consultation is available for loading and firing the kiln if that is desired.
